If your barbecue sauce is too salty, whether it’s homemade or comes from a bottle, there are two different methods you can try to make it taste less salty. The first thing to try is to add a little sweet along with a little acid. You might try brown sugar and lemon juice, for example. Add small amounts of each and taste test before going back and adding more.
If that doesn’t do the trick, then add more of your sauce’s base, acid, spice, and acid ingredients. This will dilute the salt. For most barbecue sauces, your base is a tomato-based sauce. So, adding tomato paste or even ketchup might be the way to go.
